Winners recap: Chris Brown, Rihanna and Kanye West top winners at AMA’s

Hot performances from mega stars like Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Pink and Rihanna to name just a few, fierce competition between the biggest names in the biz, prestigious awards and superstars galore…just a handful of reasons why the ‘American Music Awards’ deserved to be called a smashingly great event.

Chris Brown, Rihanna and Kanye West emerged champs on Sunday, beating both veterans and sizzling new performers to bag the most number of awards.

Rihanna and her recent touring partner were both shocked and surprised at their two out of three Soul/R&B award wins, knocking big names like Usher and Mary J. Blige out of the running. Alicia Keys and “As I Am” beat Coldplay and the Eagles to take home Favourite Pop/Rock album.

Kanye West who received awards for two of three Rap/Hip Hop Awards modestly conceded that Lil’ Wayne, who was his fiercest competition in the Hip Hop categories, should have been the winner. West said “I got my opinion. And I want to give this award to Wayne, for this year. If it was last year, this would have been my award. This year its Wayne award; we’ll see what happens next year.”
