James Marshall Hendrix best known as Jimi Hendrix in the world of soul and R&B was born on 27th November 1942 and walked this earth till 18th September 1970. Within this short span of time, Jimi curved out his niche as a seasoned American guitarist. He was also a singer and a songwriter who has influenced the rock genre with his talents. By 1976, he had shot up to fame in the US due to his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. He also played for the Woodstock Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival taking place in 1969 and 1970. All soul music enthusiasts will know the impact Memphis soul music had on the history of music. Memphis soul music has been one of the most hailed genres of its own among the soul music lovers. There was a great movement after the World War II, lot of Afro Americans tried to move out of Memphis in search of jobs and wealth. There were also people from other parts of the US moved into Memphis. Those who went out of Memphis took with them their soul music to their other parts of the nation and had access to modern electronic music instruments, which they put into best use. Similarly, many migrants who came into Memphis also came with their musical instruments and they readily took over the Memphis style music.
Memphis soul music was no more just the regional music; many music companies including some popular names such as Sun Records were interested in releasing albums in soul music. They were very enthusiastic about introduced this genre of music to the world before other companies competed. Many brilliant soul music artists including Willie Nix, B.B. King, Ike Turner, Howlin Wolf emerged taking the soul music to new heights.
As we can see, Memphis soul music had a lot to contribute to the history of soul music. Today it is rare to find some of the oldest albums that carried with them the original essence of soul music in them.
