The soul muisc of 60s are my all time favorite. i always found something which touched my soul in these music. The predecessors of Soul music belongs to the 60s . I have never said that the soul muic of the lter years are not impressivebut I think the best music were produced around 60s.

  2. allenhooper on April 16th, 2009 6:31 am

the genre of soul Music itself is awesome. You can’t categorised it like 60s, 70s or 80s. i think both the predecessors and the modern artists who are carrying out the tradition till date both are fantastic.

  3. Julia on April 16th, 2009 6:46 am

The genre of soul music is a composite one. i agree with allenhooper. but I am a great fan of the old goldies, the predecessors of the Soul Music and for me the soul of 60s are the best songs ever done in industry.

  4. lisawilly on April 17th, 2009 1:17 am

I grew up listening to the Soul Music of the great Soul artists of the 70s. May be for this reason I have grown up an adherence to the artists and music of the 70s. Even now I look for the soul tunes of this decade. But recent Soul tunes also attract me.

  5. robbieevans on April 17th, 2009 1:26 am

The genre of the Soul Music is beyond comment. To categorise it into different decades means to degrade its standard. It’s an asset and the soul artrists are rare talent. i can only say that soul music produced in every ages just transports your soul to another world.

  6. Joshua48 on April 18th, 2009 10:22 am

i would say, it’s not being measured on specific decades it has become known. i mean, for me, every decade Soul music has always been a part of the industry’s success.

  7. Madelene Richards on April 20th, 2009 3:29 am

I used to enjoy the Soul tracks of the illustrious artists when I was in my college in 70s. Hence I have developed an attachment with the muisc of the 60s to 70s. Till date I also found these tracks more soothing than the latest one. I do not want to degrade the standard of the latest tunes however, I myself do not found these that much interesting.

  8. Rick Geary on April 20th, 2009 3:32 am

I love the latest Soul tracks. since i am not that familiar with the opredecessors of the Soul music I develop an attachment with the soul tracks of this generation. I always feel the new soul artists have given the industry more refined version of soul music. With my due respect to the Soul predecessors, I am saying that this decade have produced the best ever Soul tracks

  9. Rita Schwazman on April 21st, 2009 2:33 am

The Genre of soul music is very extensive and yes it is a composite one. You cannot categorise it into sections because dividing it into 60s, 70s , 80s or 90s means to degrade the standard and quality of this music. Every ages have produced music and all of which are really ecstatic.

  10. Jim Handle on April 21st, 2009 2:37 am

I have always found the music of 90s enticing. May be it is due to the fact I belong to that generation but I think as the days pass the genre has become more refined. The predecessors of the Soul music were the initiator but they were not so refined as far as I feel.

  11. Evie Knightley on April 21st, 2009 4:01 am

I agree with Jim. Like him I also find a sheer touch of refinement in the tracks produced in the later years. However that does not mean that i am ignoring the contribution of the Soul predecessors of 60s and 70s.

  12. kevin on April 21st, 2009 4:01 pm

fantastic era for music the best

  13. kevin on April 21st, 2009 4:05 pm

My youth was this area and I have been fortunate to sing three times with My favorites the The temptations, thats Me with Mr Tyson ,Ali ,,Otis,Melvin, and Richard Street

  14. Sarah on April 22nd, 2009 10:51 am

I am a die heart of soul predecessor. The rare tunes of those artists just entice me. But I don’t find those rereshment in the soul tracks produced in the 90s or after that

  15. Timothy on April 22nd, 2009 10:56 am

I won’t say that the soul tracks of 60s and 70s are not good, rather the soul predecessors set the pathway for the present artists but according to me, Soul tracks of 90s and post 90s ca draw more listeners because these are somehow refined than the older ones

  16. wisegirl28 on April 23rd, 2009 9:26 am

am a die-heart fan of Soul music. i love all of them and I don’t think it is possible to categorise soul genre into 60s 70s 80s and so on. Because it is a composite whole to categorise it means to demean it.

  17. lisawilly on April 24th, 2009 8:51 am

I love the Soul Music of all ages. It’s very difficult to say which of the ages have produced good music.

  18. robbieevans on April 24th, 2009 8:54 am

Wat say guys? Is it very easy to point out, which one is the best decade for producing soul music. i find the Soul music interesting always, be it of the past or present

  19. themusicologist on April 25th, 2009 2:39 am

    The Sixties

  20. carl sears on April 25th, 2009 3:28 am

As a 12 year old listening to 12 year old Little Stevie Wonder doing Fingertips Pt.1 I became a lover of Soul Music. I was teenager who grew up with 60s Soul, fell in love with 70s Soul but missed out on the 80s only to get in tune with 90s and 00s again. These days I listen to it all… 60s thru to 00s and Soulful House. It’s a continuum, an evolution and a a progressing revolution. Soul for life in all its guises.

  21. Madelene Richards on April 27th, 2009 10:53 am

Soul Music is a compound and hence it cannot be said correctly that which of the decade has produced the best Soul music. Actually I find interest in all of them

  22. Bobby O' Leary on April 27th, 2009 10:58 am

i have rarely listened to the old goldies of 60s and 70s and therefore I hardly have developed adherence to those tracks. but yes the songs o 90s nd pot 90s really attract me and I am jut mesmerized with those tracks. hence for me the tracks of the later years sound best

  23. Rick Geary on April 27th, 2009 11:02 am

Well, this is really a debtable tpic. Perspective differs and according to this people love songs. but do you really think that soul music can be categorised into different decades and the to be judged that which one has produced best music? don;t you think that it would mean to degrade the status and prestige of Soul Music?

  24. Evie Knightley on April 28th, 2009 4:46 am

Always the 60s . I know modern people will talk about refinement and something like that but I believe that unless the predecessors were there, the forerunners would not be there to create refined music. Anyways, for me the 60s music are always the best, I feel a sense of oneness with those tracks.

  25. Jim Handle on April 28th, 2009 4:51 am

Although I think the music produced in the later years sound cool but yes, the genre of Soul music cannot be divided into decades. it’s a rare creation and every decades created it in its own way . hence nothing can be said exactly, which of the decade has produced the best.

  26. Rita Schwazman on April 28th, 2009 4:53 am

Since i am not that much familiar with the 60s and 70s soul music, i do not have that much idea of that. but yes, I have heard it and it really sounds good. however, personally I feel more interested in the music of the present generation.

  27. Timothy on April 29th, 2009 11:45 am

It’ really a stupid question that which of the age has produced good music. How can you categorize a composite genre into several categories? For me categorizing a genre means to denigrate it

  28. Thomas Callum on April 29th, 2009 12:01 pm

it’s always the music of 60s , which enticed me. th soul predecessors just soothe my soul

  29. Julia Brown on April 30th, 2009 9:25 am

You have rightly said that every generation believe that the current decade is the best one. However, keeping this in mind I am saying that Soul predecessors in the 60s are always best.

  30. allenhooper on April 30th, 2009 9:27 am

Being a part of current generation I should have said that this decade is the best one , but no. I agree with Julia. She has rightly said that soul predecessors are the best. Those tracks have soething which soothe soul.

  31. robbieevans on May 1st, 2009 2:10 am

I think that the soul music produced in late 90s have a different vibe, which the predecessors did, although it is the predecessors who laid the foundation of Soul music strongly. I love the late 90s more

  32. Aaron on May 1st, 2009 2:12 am

Well, According to me nothing can be said exactly regarding this debatable topic. It depends upon the perspective wholly. Young people will like the music of their ages, and it is equally unexpected from a man living in 60s to like the Soul music of the recent years.

  33. Madelene Richards on May 4th, 2009 1:30 am

Well! its a debatable topic and depends upon the perspective of the person , who is listening. Although I am a die-heart fan of the soul tracks of 90s, yet I respect the contribution of the Soul predecessors.

  34. Bobby O' Leary on May 4th, 2009 1:33 am

I find the music of 60s always impressive. Although some people find refinement in the current generation tracks, yet t here was something different in the tracks of the 60s, it touch the soul.

  35. Evie Knightley on May 5th, 2009 1:16 am

Although Soul music genre is a composite one , it is not impossible to categorise. I am pretty sure that one cannot like the genre as a composite one, everyone has different choice. Well, I always think the 90s music best, while my mother thinks the 60s best.

  36. Jim Handle on May 5th, 2009 1:17 am

For me , its always the 90s. May be it is more refined , or the reason may be something else for which I always feel attached to these tracks.

  37. Timothy on May 6th, 2009 2:33 am

the soul tracks of the 90s attract me most. I don’t feel that much interested in the old tracks of 60s and 70s

  38. Thomas Callum on May 6th, 2009 2:41 am

Well, its a debatable topic although, still i would say that being born up and brought up in a family where music was practised highly, I have developed an attachment with the soul predecessors. Although I am a moden day man, still I adore those of the past.

  39. allenhooper on May 7th, 2009 11:00 am

The Soul music of the 90s attract me most. I was in college those times, may be that time was the best one to develop an attachment with music and for that reason I find it interesting

  40. Julia on May 7th, 2009 11:03 am

i have learnt music from my mother and she is attached with the Soul muisc of the 60s . for that reason my attachment with the soul of 60s is quite natural. So for m it’s always the 60s , which has produced the bet music ever.

  41. lisawilly on May 8th, 2009 9:37 am

Nothing can be said so predictably about the Soul music. I think both the ages have produced exceptional music of good quality in its own way. Hence saying something specifically would be a stupidity

  42. robbieevans on May 8th, 2009 9:41 am

i think the 90s music are good enough. I think soul tracks of these era has more popular appeal than the predecessors.

  45. Carl Brown on July 21st, 2009 2:01 am

I believe that late 1970’s through to 1985 were huge for the music. Soul music took the best elements of Disco and Jazz Funk that were attracting huge new followers to their own music genders at the time, and then incorporated it into the music of Soul.

Tracks by Patrice Rushen, Cameo, Mtume, Change, Loose Ends (Uk), the early Michael Jackson stuff (Yes some of the ballards from Michael, and the Jackson 5 from this period were wonderfully Soulful), Roy Ayers (The soulful side of him), Maze, Luther Vandross (What a singer), Chaka Khan and with Rufus, Bobby Caldwell, saw us not being able to keep up with the scene at one stage. And there were many more artists that fall into the category as well.

It was wonderful time for music. As not only from the point of the view that I have mentioned above (Disco and Jazz/Funk Influences); but also the inclusion of electronic instruments that took the music even further with its new sounds and vibes; but in doing so they still managed to put a firm Soul edge on side to it on these recordings.

The only other period that can beat and better this period in my opinion would the early 1970’s with groups such as the Chlites, The Stylistics, The Delfonics, Blue Magic and Al Green. All of these groups had lead singers in them that would put a lot of singers today to shame within the area of Soul and Rn’b music of today.

There is no such thing as “the decade that had the best soul music”. It’s too subjective. Of course I love the music of the 60s and 70s. But that’s because those were my youth and young adult days. Likewise, I would expect the same reaction from each generation for the music of their generation.
An valid argument could be made that every generation had it “good” and “bad” music - it depends on the listeners and the culture of that time.
And, finally, we oftentimes have certain cuts from past generations that strike a chord in our soul, no matter what the age group.

I think the predecessor, pioneers for the sixties deserve high respects for the things that they have done for music. Being a person with enough musical talent to begin a new musical genius of emotion is quite a feat. Artists like eddie kendricks, stevie wonder, marvin gaye, roy ayers, marvin and all the other isley bros., groups like the supremes, the temptations; and many more ground breaking musicians deserve your acknowledgement for they’re tremendous moves in tunes that captured a groove, that we can all relate to in one way or another.

  49. DJ M@#H on October 16th, 2009 12:46 pm

As for the era that produced the “BEST” music, that would be a matter of opinion, based on your personal preferance. But for me I can only say that when it comes down to my personal preferance, I always try to get to the roots of everything, i think that’s where most of the soul and heart is at! and that’s where my soul and heart are at!

  50. Hemi Maihi on November 2nd, 2009 4:29 am

In my opinion, i would suggest the 60’s. I am 23 and im addicted to Soul/Blues/RnB/Rap. My mother was born in 1960. I think the Sounds being made at the time were perfect for it and the artists are probably the most talented to walk the earth.

  51. will fletcher on February 4th, 2010 4:36 am

I have been listening to soul music since the 60″s and every era has it|”s defining moments but for me 1970 to 1985 has been the greatest period specifically philly and the beverley glenn label and also had the best funk bands.
