The Emotions are a female band comprising of the three Hutchinson sisters who have the genre in soul, R&B and disco. The group was formed in the year 1968 in Illinois and three of them were the daughters of Lillian and Joseph Hutchinson. The former members of the band were Jeanette Hutchinson, Theresa Davis and Adrianne Harris, but now the current members are Pamela Hutchinson, Sheila Hutchinson and Wanda Hutchinson.

The Hutchinson family lived in Chicago where Joseph Wilson used to train his daughter with some excellent music skills. The father and the daughters used to practice in the basement of the house and used to sing in church’s children choir. The girls used to sing so well that they were known as Hutchinson Sunbeams. In the year 1968, the Hutchinson sisters launched their first album “So I can Love You” which was really cherished by the people. The album was appreciated to a great extent and also ruled the R&B as well as U.S. charts at forty fifth rank. After giving this hit album the three sisters renamed their group as “The Emotions”.

Then in the year 1970, one of he sisters namely Jeanette Hutchinson got married. She left the group, when she got pregnant and so Jeanette Hutchinson was replaced by Theresa Davis. Theresa was their close friend but was soon replaced by Pamela Hutchinson. In the same year, the female band The Emotions released their second album “Untouched” including some sizzling hits like “If you think it” and “Show me How” to name few. Concurrently, Jeanette Hutchinson returned back in the year 1976 and joined the band again. After the joining of Jeanette Hutchinson, the band released their third and fourth album “Flowers” and “I Don’t wanna loose your Love”. Both of the songs were a brilliant hit and not only this, “Flowers” ruled the U.S Pop charts at forty fifth rank of the R&B charts.

After some time, the band associated with Maurice White who helped them to become successful. Maurice White is a very renowned singer of United States who is related with Earth, Wind & Fire and has genres in soul, funk and R&B. He was active till early 1990’s, as in between this time he was identified with Parkinson’s disease. Still, in his active years he helped the three sisters to gain recognition and released some eminent albums like “Sunbeam” and “Rejoice” in the year 1978 and 1977, respectively.

Rejoice, which was launched in the year 1977, was produced with Maurice White under the label Columbia. This album had a disco song “Best of My Love” that became a sensational hit. This album gave recognition to The Emotions and so the band became more established as a victorious female group. Not only this, the album received Platinum Certification from Recording Industry Association of America, as well.

Even after this great success they released many other albums like Songs of “Innocence & Experience”, “Sunshine”, “Sunbeam”, “Live in 96”, “Sincerely”, “New Affair”, “Come into our World” and a lot more. Apart from this the band has given some compilations and singles like “Chronicle Greatest Hits”, “I Can’t Stand No More Heart Aches”, “Never Let Me Go”, “The Best Part of a Love Affair”, “You Make Me Want to Love You”, “Show Me How”, “My Honey and Me”, “What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas”, “Boogie Wonderland” and “Walking the line” to name a few.

For me The Emotions have always been a symbol for girl power. All-girl bands always excite me and this group has too many reasons for making us happy. Remember the ‘70s when the three Hutchinson sisters rocked the world with their songs. I loved all the songs of the album “So I can Love You”.

I am particularly fond of “I Can’t Stand No More Heart Aches” and I feel it is better than Chronicle Greatest Hits. I believe there is not a single person who does not like ‘You Make Me Want to Love You’. This enchanting composition takes me to a different world.

What album was You Make Me Want to Love you? I gotta get some of this R&B old stuff. I’ve been checking out this site and storing some fantastic tracks for a mix CD for my car before I have to drive up to Scotland in sub-zero temperatures. Brrr!

You must check out the Chronicle Greatest Hits. It’s cool. It has some great singles like So I Can Love You, Stealin’ Love, The Best Part Of A Love Affair and I Could Never Be Happy. But I love to hum “When Tomorrow Comes”. It does have something unique about it.

Yeah the Chronicle Greatest Hits also has Heart Association, Show Me How, You Make Me Want To Love You, and a whole gang of singles. Don’t you think, Shouting Out Love is splendid? Yesterday I was hearing Baby, I’m Through and I just want to hear it again and again.

When the Emotions started working with Maurice White of Earth Wind and Fire they said “Just to indicate to you how fantastic the man is, he started writing “Flowers” whilst we were still recording and it seemed almost as if it took just a day for him to complete it – he said that being around us provided the inspiration. Naturally, we’d heard about Maurice’s spiritual outlook and philosophy on life and we found him to be just a truly beautiful person to work with.”
